How we test

The short version: weeks, not minutes. Real conditions, not lab tricks.

Every product on this site is tested for a minimum of four weeks before we publish a verdict. For VPNs and hosting, that’s 14 weeks across multiple regions and times of day. For smartwatches, that’s continuous daily wear plus controlled workout sessions against reference equipment.

The same scoring criteria, every time

We score on five fixed criteria per category, never adjusted to flatter a sponsor. The criteria are visible at the top of every review. VPNs are rated on speed, privacy, server network, streaming unblocks, and apps. Smartwatches on fitness tracking, battery life, display and build, smart features, and app ecosystem. Hosts on performance, reliability, support, value, and ease of use.

Re-tested on a schedule, not on a whim

Reviews are revisited at least once a year, and immediately when a product issues a major firmware update, price change, or policy revision. If something changes, the verdict changes with it — we don’t quietly leave outdated scores on the page.

Where the money comes from

Affiliate links. When you buy through a retailer link on this site, we earn a small commission at no cost to you. That commission never influences a verdict; the testing notes behind every score are public, so you can check the work.

At minimum once a year. More often when a product issues a major firmware update, price change, or policy revision. The “Updated” date at the top of every review tells you when it was last revisited.

We publish the testing notes behind every score, the criteria are fixed per category, and the scoring is the same whether or not the product runs an affiliate program. If you disagree with a verdict, the reasoning is on the page — not behind a paywall.
